About us
The payfair initiative was started in 2007 by a group of
professionals coming from complementary industrial
sectors such as retail, banking, payment processing,
card schemes and software services.
The project was further funded through an external
investment partner, Janivo Holding (NL), in the summer
of 2008 ensuring payfair remains independent from both
banks and retailers.
The structure of the payfair group is made of a brand
and Licence Company (PayFair International GmbH), a
processing company (European Payment Solutions sa/nv)
and a holding company (PayFair Holding B.V.).
payfair's vision is to provide the world with its own card
payment scheme and brand by making payfair the
leading universal card solution in the world. Many
elements contributed to the formulation of this project:
needs expressed by retailers for more competition and
transparency in card payments, invitation by the European
Commission and the European Central Bank to create a
Universal Card Scheme that can be used all over the world
and, last but not least, the market conditions created by
SEPA and the PSD to enable new players to enter the
exciting business of card payments.
